How did Peeta save Katniss at dinner?

one way Peeta saved Katniss is how he miraculously covered for her when she recgonized the redheaded Avox girl, when she wasn't supposed to know. He claimed that the redheaded Avox reminded Katniss of a girl in District 12 when in reality she looks nothing like the Avox girl. Then idk wht happen. one other time was when peeta gave burned bread to katniss.

Katniss claims to know th avox. It was the girl she and gale saw in the woods one day and her and a boy were take by a hovercraft. it could get her in trouble if she knew an avox and effie said "How could youpossibly know her, katniss?" and peeta said "We never knew her personally, just saw her aroundschool,and the dstrict." Peeta did not save Katniss from dinner, he helped her whilst they were eating dinner. They were sat at the table when Katniss recognised the Avox (Lavinia) from an encounter in the woods one time when the avox was running from the capitol. It is illegal to know an avox and so Katniss was in trouble until Peeta said she must have mistaken her for someone back in District 12, Peeta's friend Delly Cartwright.
