How do you get invited to Hogwarts?

Unfortunately, we muggles can't get into Hogwarts. If you were a wizard, the current headmaster would contact you, I assume. That's what happened for Harry. Actually Ms. Hermione Granger got in and she was muggle-born but she was brilliant.

Hogwarts students don't get chosen. They are accepted into Hogwarts if they are wizards or witches. As soon as they come of age they receive a letter of acceptance and a list of school supplies signed by Professor Minerva McGonagall. They then go to platform 9 3/4, which is a wall only wizards and witches can through, between platforms 9 and 10. Once the students are at Hogwarts, the sorting ceremony begins and the Sorting Hat puts them in their appropriate house by looking through their minds and seeing which house they would do best in.

It doesn't say anywhere, but presumably the Headmaster assigns it based on a combination of seniority and the professor's match to the attributes of the house.

The four Finders Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff and Godric Gryffindor founded Hogwarts and made 4 houses each after themselves, they put their personalities into a hat, hence the sorting ceremony.

Hufflepuff was kind hearted, Godric was brave, Salazar was power hungry and Ravenclaw was witty and smart.

You have to be a witch or wizard born in Britain. It is also likely that witches or wizards born outside of Britain can choose to attend Hogwarts over their own countries school.
