In the hobbit why does Bilbo grow afraid?

J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of the Hobbit, created Bilbo, an interesting character. At one point Bilbo lets out a horrible shriek and begins to shake like jelly because Thorin has said they might never return to his house.

In 'The Hobbit' what page does Gandalf come in?

'In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.'

How does Gollum react when he couldn't find the ring in 'The Hobbit'?

Not very well, considering that he turns around and rushes back to Bilbo with the intent to brutally murder him.He becomes very mad, furious even, and suddenly very suspicious of Bilbo and what he's got in his pocketses. I might even dare to insinuate that Gollum was perhaps a bit frightened at the realization that he had lost his Ring after all of the years he'd had possession of it.

Why does Bilbo think the dwarves might not keep their bargain with him?

Bilbo is talking to Smaug when the doubts appear. It says in the book that it's because dragons are very persuasive, and he wasn't prepared for it.

Who is frodo's confidant?

Bilbo Baggins.Another opinion:Although Bilbo Baggins was Frodo's cousin (he is often assumed to be his uncle, but they are in fact cousins), and Bilbo named Frodo as his heir, I don't believe Bilbo was actually Frodo's guardian during the whole of Lord of the Rings. I think his actual guardian was Gandalf the Grey (later Gandalf the White) the wizard that had been friends with him since he was a child. While Bilbo spent his years in Rivendell writing a book, Gandalf was off helping Frodo to save the world, and doing the best he could to protect the young hobbit on his dangerous journey.A 3rd opinion:In the book, Bilbo was 78 years older than Frodo, and he adopted Frodo (age 12) when both of his parents died in a boating accident. Gandalf was an extremely infrequent visitor to the Shire. Gandalf and Frodo were together on the Quest for Mordor for a grand total of three months, and two of those months were spent at Rivendell with Bilbo. I vote for Bilbo as Frodo's guardian.

Who is the real leader of the expedition in The Hobbit?

Bilbo Baggins is the real leader in The Hobbit because he does a veritety of things to make him hero like. For example: Bilbo saves the dwarves from the spiders; he goes partway down the tunnel to Smaug even though its Thorin's treasure; and he even brightens the mood when everyone is feeling down before the go after Smaug by telling them that they can do it. Bilbo is the most mature one and that's why I think he deserves the real hero and the actual leader of the quest in The Hobbit.

How does Bilbo get in and out of the palace in chapter 9 in the Hobbit?

He uses his ring to turn invisible and follows hunting parties in and out of the main gate. It was not fun and he didn't do it often. He couldn't go to far from the caves, as he had to be there when they came back.

What is an example of a name that might be used in The Hobbit?

Uh.. Bilbo Baggins, to state the obvious. The thirteen dwarves' names are as follows: Fili, Kili, Bifer, Bofer, Bombur, Gloin, Oin, Dori, Nori, Ori, Dwalin, Balin and Thorin. And then there's Gandalf the Gray Wizard, and Smaug the Great Dragon.
