Denzel Washington has been nominated for Academy Awards six times, more than any other African-American actors. Morgan Freeman has received five nominations.

Washington is the only African-American to win two Oscars. He won for "Glory" (Best Supporting Actor, 1989) and "Training Day" (Best Actor, 2001). He also was nominated for "Cry Freedom" (Best Supporting Actor, 1987), "Malcolm X" (Best Actor, 1992) and "The Hurricane" (Best Actor, 1999) and "Flight" (2012).

Freeman won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Million Dollar Baby" (2004). He also was nominated for "Street Smart" (Best Supporting Actor, 1987), "Driving Miss Daisy" (Best Actor, 1989), "The Shawshank Redemption" (Best Actor, 1994) and "Invictus" (Best Actor, 2009).
