If a singer is very talented but can't write their own songs, they hire songwriters who can't really sing to do it for them. Or, if they just need a little help, they co-write with a professional songwriter where the musician comes in with the ideas and the songwriter helps them make it into a wonderful song. But if a singer is an excellent songwriter also, they write their own songs.

∙ 12y agoNot necessarily. A singer is technically a SINGer..one who writes songs is a COMPOSEr. Most celebrities do not write their own songs. That's what hiring composers are for. They write a song for singers to perform and if the singer likes the song, they get paid and the song is officially under the singer's name.

∙ 14y agoNope! You just need to know how to write words and notes on paper and you're good to go. If you wanna make a complicated song though you need some experience. Music Lessons are good to have to write a good song.

∙ 13y agono you don't really need to write your own songs but it is better to write them yourself so it actually has a meaning to it that is also part of your life and not just a song you sing. but you do need talent to be a singer like you need to be a good singer and maybe if you want to be discovered, start on YouTube or make your own webshow about you singing. hope this helps :D

∙ 13y agoYou don't have to be able to read music necessarily but you should know how to play at least one instrument and know a bit about how music works generally. Writing a good song is very difficult, like putting a car together from scratch. You have to make sure you have enough experience to know how it all fits together.
If you want to write your song down so that other people can play and perform it, you will need to be able to read and write music. If you can't read music you will have to memorise your own song.
