A rectifier is an arrangement of diodes (devices that only allow current to flow in one direction), half-wave or full-wave, that converts AC to pulsated DC. A capacitor (condenser) is used to smooth out the pulsated DC for a more true DC supply.

A transformer is usually comprised of two coils of wire around an iron core that changes the ratio of input voltage/current to output voltage/current. It does this by induction (a magnetic field crossing through a coil of wire producing electricity). The Primary coil (the input) usually is a bit thicker and has less windings than the Secondary coil (the output).

actually diode we all known di-two,ode-electrode i.e two types of electrodes one from p region and another from n-region .which has separate voltage eqn has each one like other devices. and the one of the application of diode is rectifier. it consists of half and full wave rectifier ,the rectifier is nothing but a process of converting a.c into d.c i.e alternating current into direct current .

Considering only one diode (as opposed to the four in a bridge rectifier), it is a non-linear device and therefore is often used as a detector in an a.m. radio.

The other name for it, in that application, is the mixer.

welding transformer is a machine supplying of electric current for melting the electrode,

where welding recifier is a component of welding machine which converts AC to DC Any transformer by princples works only on Alternating Current. It cannot be used Directly on a DC Supply. Welding can be done using AC or DC depending on the required application. Therefore if any welding Application requires a Direct Current for obtaining optimum weld properties, then along with a Welding Transformer , a Rectifier Circuit is used on the Welding Output Side to Obtain DC from the AC Transformer. Hence the term Welding Transformer & Welding Rectifier ( which is a combo of Welding Transformer & a Rectifier )

They are, in fact, completely different. A transformer is an electrical machine that will step up, or step down, a.c. voltages. A rectifier is a circuit that will change a.c. into d.c.

The main difference between a Normal Step Down Transformer & a Welding transformer , is Not only to Step Down ( lower ) the outlet supply voltage and at the same time increase the Available Output Circuit Current, but to be also able withstand the Short Circuit Conditions on the Welding Output Side and especially for the Magnetic ( Iron Lamination Core ) Part of the Transformer. This Magnetic Path difference prevents the Supply side Electrical Circuit from Oveloading , espcially during the Striking of the Arc, when the Welding Electrode & the Welding Job touch to initiate an Arc, after which the Welding Electrode is lifted slightly by Experience, to maintain the required weld flow. A Normal Transformer of equivalent rating will not be able witstand this operation without burning out.
