A ball valve is a valve with a spherical disc, the part of the valve which controls the flow through it. The sphere has a hole, or port, through the middle so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur. When the valve is closed, the hole is perpendicular to the ends of the valve, and flow is blocked. The handle or lever will be inline with the port position letting you "see" the valve's position.

A globe valve is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipeline, consisting of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body.

Globe valves are named for their spherical body shape with the two halves of the body being separated by an internal baffle.

A gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a gate from the path of the fluid.

A ball valve is a valve that opens by turning a handle attached to a ball inside the valve. The ball has a hole in the middle so that when the hole is lined up the input side and the output side of the valve, flow occurs.

A globe valve is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipe, consisting of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a spherical body. Usually the globe is moved in and out of the flow by a handle connected to a threaded stem.

Gate valves get worn out and they end up "dropping"! This means that the mechanism(gate) for stopping the flow inside the valve, does not move up or down to open or close. It will stay shut if the gate drops. Then, because you can't open it, it is useless.

Depends on the applications NOT on high pressure steam as the velocity of the steam will score a ball valve throttling capabilities

What valve is the preferred valve to use in throttling a gate valve or globe valve?

Never ever use a Gate type of valve for throttling ONLY a globe pattern is designed for this purpose and a needle valve

Where is a ball valve used?

Where one would use either a gate or globe pattern type A ball valve is used to turn water , gas or oil on and off.

What type of valve is used in a peanut butter factory ball or gate or globe or gate?

gate valve. globes are used for throttling and have far too many turns. ball valves are not made for thick stuff. this question was on the inter-provincal exam they had globe valve, gate valve, diaphragm valve and piston valve. for answers too choose from.

Is the full bore applicable for gate valve or that's just for ball valve type?

For Ball valve only,as it gives more full bore flow, unlike wedge block, slow operating in Gate valve.

What is the difference of gate valve to gate valve?

a gate valve is a valve you turn the handle round and round until it shuts off a ball valve is a valve with a lever that you turn 1/4 turn and its off hope this helps plumber paul

What does the gate valve's advantages?

The gate valve has NO advantages that I can easily think of. They are slow and clumsy to operate, they are prone to corrosion and they have a bad habit of breaking the shaft. If I had my way, I would replace every gate valve with a ball valve which is easier to use, easier to see if open or shut and far more reliable.

What is a ball valve?

A ball valve is a contrivance by which a ball, placed in a circular cup with a hole in a bottom, operates as a valve.

What is the application of slide gate valve?

Application is shutting off supply, usually water. -Gate valves are 'Old hat' and inefficient, get a new ball valve instead.

How do you disassemble a water valve?

By shutting off a valve before it before attempting any repairs then it would depend on what type of valve your talking about globe/ gate / ball as each one is totally different

Why ball valve is batter then other valve?

Every valve is used for a specific application such as a lift check valve ,soft seat check valve, gate check valve, OS&Y valve, globe , gate and various models of each. A ball valve generally has a higher WOG pressure rating and many use it as one valve fits the majority of applications One would dare not use a ball valve on a fire suppression system or a street main shut off . On high pressure applications a Ball valve being a quick closing valve can cause a lot of damage when it is closed to fast causing a hydraulic shock wave (water hammer)

What type of valve for incoming water service gate or ball valve?

Ball valve is usually preferable. full flow with no restriction and a lot easier and faster to turn off when needed.

What is the difference between an air valve and gate valve?

An air valve is a spring loaded plastic valve for ventilation. A gate valve is an old fashioned type of water valve where turning a handle lowers a blocking gate over the water inlet. Any sensible plumber now uses ball valves instead.
