The need to de energize the circuit the breaker is feeding is a cause to have a circuit breaker switched off. If you are referring to a breaker tripping off, the cause would be from an overload condition being applied to the circuit, the breaker sensing it and shutting the circuit off.

Why might a circuit breaker not stay on?

There are two main reasons that a breaker might not reset. One is mechanical failure in the breaker itself. If this is the case the breaker has to be replaced. The other reason that the breaker might not reset is that the breaker is doing its job and still senses an overload when the breaker is switched back on after an overload trip.To check the breaker as to which fault is occurring disconnect the load conductor from the breaker. Try resetting the breaker. If it will not reset then it is a mechanical fault. If the breaker resets with the load conductor off then shut the breaker off, reconnect the load conductor and turn the circuit back on.If it trips this time then there is a fault in the circuit and it has to be located and repaired before the circuit is put back into service. You might need an electrician to troubleshoot the circuit depending on what equipment the circuit controls.

What would cause a circuit breaker heating element to trip off?

There are two conditions that would cause a breaker to trip off. One is an overload of the circuit and the other is a short circuit on the circuit. The heating element within the breaker is what monitors for circuit overloads.

What type of circuit allows part of the circuit to be switched off?

Parallel Circuits

In electrical engineering what is a spur circuit?

A circuit branching off a main circuit that is directly connected to the breaker box.

What is working principle of motor protection Circuit breaker?

The working principle of a motor protection circuit breaker is to cut the electrical current off in a power surge situation. The circuit breaker safeguards the motor from electrical damage.

Does surge strips provide overload protection even when the circuit breaker is switched off?

If the circuit breaker is in the off position there is no need of overload protection. Overload protection monitors the load amperage, If there is no amperage through the circuit there is nothing to monitor.

Will a circuit breaker give off less amperage?

A circuit breaker does not give off amperage. A circuit breaker allows a flow of current up to the rating of the breaker. Any current higher than that of the breaker's rating will open the breaker's contacts and stop the flow of current.

What is wrong with your air conditioner if the fan is blowing but the compressor is not working?

It is possible that the circuit breaker for the compressor unit is thrown (switched to "off"). Go outside to the compressor unit and follow the big cable up to the circuit breaker panel on the wall. If it is off, throw the switch to "on." If that is not the problem, something is probably wrong with the compressor unit. Turn off the breaker panel and call a repairman.

What device is used for turning a circuit on or off?

Circuit breaker or switch

Parallel Circuits

How do i rest the power window circuit breaker on a 1995 cutlass ciera?

The circuit breaker resets itself after it cools off, unless the breaker is broken.

When will a circuit breaker trip or turn off?

A circuit breaker has a specific amperage trip setting. That is the number on the handle of the breaker. When an amperage that is drawn by a load goes higher than the setting on the breaker, the breaker will trip off. This tripping action opens the circuit and drops off the load that was causing a higher than normal amperage.

How would you turn off the main circuit breaker?

You would move the handle of the breaker from the on position to the off position.

Can a circuit breaker be weak even if it does not trip?

No, a circuit breaker if it is working correctly has only two states - on and off. Nothing in between.

Circuit breakers are used for what?

Circuit breakers prevent excessive current from flowing in the circuit by "tripping" when the current exceeds the circuit breaker rating. This causes the current to be cut off, and is used to protect the wiring as well as the appliances.
