brass, steel and bronze are the most common alloys. they are made of:

brass: 35% zinc and 65% copper - uses, Musical Instruments

steel: 99% iron and 1% carbon - uses, tools, car bodies etc

bronze: 87.5% copper and 12.5% tin - uses, boat hardware and screws etc

some not so common alloys are alnico (aluminium and nickel and cobalt - used to make magnets) and stainless steel (18% chromium, 80.6% iron, 1% nickel and 0.4% carbon - used to make surgical tools and tableware and cookware.)

There are not alloy types, exept if you mean ferrous and non-ferrous which stands for with iron or without. Otherwise, you can say a alloy type can take the name of its predominant element, such as copper in bronze or copper, or iron in steel(which technically is not an alloy, its a carbide-metal+carbon). Their combinations? Well there are like 60-70 metals in the periodic table, so you have at least 60^2 or 70^2 possible combinations. if you add a 3 coponnent to that alloy its 60^3 and it goes on to infinite.
