There is a big difference between osteoarthritis and RA. The former is classic arthritis that people get from aging or bone damage. RA is completely different. It is an autoimmune disease that can kill. The body's immune system goes haywire for reasons not understood and attacks other parts of the body as if they were foreign invaders that need to be destroyed. My husband had it in his bones, joints and other connective tissues. It was even in his eyes! It eventually killed him. It is nothing like standard arthritis, but people get it confused all the time, and l wish it were named something else. A lot of people call it RA. There are other autoimmune diseases such as lupus.
