Crawl under the passenger side and you will be able to find it, looks like a coke can with three wires going to it, a easy change out just make sure to remove the battery first, and have a good socket set with some extender's to get to the back uper bolt depending on the year, get a Haynes Manuel it will save you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I had the same problem on my 1988 and would have to leave it on. On that motor, there is a heat shield that surrounds the starter and if it is not there, when the motor heats up it will transfer that heat to the starter simulating a bad battery/starter problem. Once it cools down it starts fine. Start looking from there or get a remote starter (like I did) so you can leave it running when you run into somewhere fast. Begin by removing the positive cable from your battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new Ford starter.
Maybe on the top of the starter - follow the + battery cable it will connect to the starter relay (solenoid)
