Open the hood. Look at the right side of the top of the motor and you'll see a 4 inch diameter flexible plastic hose connect to it (it runs to the air filter box). Look a few inches to the left and a few inches towards the winshield from where that hose attatches to the motor and you'll see the EGR valve. It will be metal, have a round shape about 3 inches across.
It is on the back of the engine, near the firewall. About half way down the the block, accessible under the hood on the passenger side.
Your left arm will enter from the side (and get scraped up a little about 2/3 of the way up your forearm from your wrist to your elbow), and you can see (at least the top bolt) from above.
The lower bolt is about 1 1/2" directly below the upper one, and you will be able to easily touch it to put the socket around it. Box end wrenches work also.
It will have (2) 10mm bolts that can easily be removed with a 1/4" drive socket. I like using a flexible extension. Make sure you have a purchased a new gasket for it in advance. I made one using some gasket material, but the metal gasket would be best. The gasket may cost up to $11 with shipping if the parts store orders it for you, or $6 online.

Check the EGR valve. It sounds like your EGR valve is staying open. An EGR valve that is open at idle will cause a car to stall. An EGR should be closed at idle and open when you are driving around.
Yes, if the valve is bad. With the car idling, move the EGR valve diaphragm with your fingers. The engine should quit or want to quit. If it doesn't do this, it could be plugged up. Remove the EGR valve and clean any carbon deposits in the valve and also do the same on the engine side where the EGR valve is connected. If the EGR has never been removed before, it will probably have carbon buildup.
