Hey Susan==It is a pretty good job to change a timing belt. I suggeast getting a manual on your vehicle from AUTOBOOKSONLINE.COM They will telll you all about it. GoodluckJoe
on both cogs on cam and crank there will be a stamped dot. you need to align these with each other during installation
As far as I know they can not be cleaned. Must be replaced.
u can plow with anything, but a ranger is a light truck. this means it will not have the traction to dig into the snow(4wd is the way to go ) . also the trans. is not built for the added load of plowing. I have a 1997 ranger xlt 4 wheel drive that I've used for 4 years to plow and it works fine.
Does your underhood light come on when you open the hood ? If not , it sounds like a dead battery or poor cable connection to the battery
the solenoid itself is probably bad, if not that probably the ignition switch I agree 100%, check the solenoid first then the switch.
A timing CHAIN
It has a timing CHAIN
The 2.3 liter DOHC 4 cylinder in a 2002 Ford Ranger has a ( timing CHAIN )

Actually , the Ford 4.0 liter SOHC - V6 has ( 3 ) timing CHAINS
If the timing chain is noisy , otherwise if you are having the engine rebuilt
