The judgment will only stay on your credit record for 7 years. If you go to free annual credit report (www.annualcreditreport.com) You can look at your credit report for free. But be aware you can only do this once a year. But where the judgment is it will tell you when it will be removed from your report. As for how long it will stay on the public record... I do not know. I am in persute of this answer myself. But I think you can call the court house and find out. Because I'm sure your more worried about being able to find a place to live then the judment. AnswerAn eviction is public information that will be available to anyone requesting it from the court and will be available until the court either destroy the file or it's removed from their database. I assume you're more worried about the judgment that results from the eviction. The judgment will show up on your credit record and remain on until paid.

It stays on long enough to make it difficult for you to rent again, get a loan or anything else that requires a credit check. It is best to be businesslike in your personal dealings with your housing, utilities and any other services you sign up for. If you find you cannot pay for something you have signed up for, make arrangements as soon as you know to solve the problem.

A person can remove an eviction from their credit record by working out an agreement with their landlord. Ask the former landlord in writing a settlement offer or payment plan. Be sure the former landlord will report your payments to the credit bureaus as well as have the eviction removed.

After the disposition of an Unlawful Detainer filing and if a judgment is entered against you, the tenant, the judgment will be reported to your credit report by a collection agency hired by your landlord or property management company AND in the public records section of your credit report. Judgements do not go away until they are paid.

Evictions remain a matter of public record, forever unless expunged. However, there are certain parameters by which they can be removed from your rental history record and credit report. Once on a Friday, I showed an apartment to a couple at 6pm. Based on what they told me they appeared to be stellar candiates. When searching their backgrounds that evening at about 8pm, I discovered their court ordered eviction that had taken place at 4pm, that afternoon, about 2 hours before coming to see my open apartment.

I would say it goes on your record about as quickly as the court documents it. And court records are part of the public information domain.

PS I did not rent to them.

You must give them a 3 day notice to pay or move out and after 3 days are up, file with the local JP court that your property is located in. I had my court date within 6 days.
