Not only did you fight talking apes and try to survive a massive pandemic this summer...you're also joining one of TV's hottest shows, "Masters of Sex." What can you tell us about your role in the show?

Nearly nothing! There are a couple of twist in the storyline I'm involved in, so much that speaking about it too much would give it away. Fans of the show will be blown away this season, without a doubt!

What was it about "Masters of Sex" that made you sign on for the role?

This is a high profile, critically acclaimed period piece, on a classy network, based on historically true events. It was a no-brainer for me.

"The Last Ship" follows the story of the crew of a naval destroyer after a pandemic kills off most of the earth's population. What drew you to your character, LT. Carlton Burk?

First and foremost, Michael Bay. I've always wanted to work on one of his projects. Secondly, this was the first time I've had the chance to play someone as tough as Burk. Running around saving the world and shooting bad guys is the ultimate boyhood fantasy.

Did you have to go through rigorous training to play a lieutenant?

Shooting this type of show on a television schedule is damn near next to impossible at times. Sometimes you don't have the time to train for something or plan it out. So when you read in a script that you're going to be in the middle of the ocean, and climb off of one boat onto another much larger boat, with pounds of military gear on, an oxygen tank, a gas mask and your rifle...it looks really good on paper, until you show up that day and realize there was no possible way nor time to prepare for the moment. By the way, don't run out of oxygen, make sure you look tough and like you know what you're doing...and don't fall into the ocean...also known as don't die. Now do it for 8 hours straight. Good luck!

Why should Answers users watch "The Last Ship"?

"Lost" fans will love the fact that Jack Bender, Executive Producer of "Lost" who was responsible for directing the majority of those episodes, puts his own stamp on "The Last Ship" along with Michael Bay, with an appearance or two by actors that were on "Lost." And the ladies will love the fact that "McSteamy" from "Grey's Anatomy" is our captain.

What other projects will you be working on in the future?

In a couple of months I start Season 2 of "The Last Ship," which just got picked up. After that, perhaps a Season 3 of "Masters of Sex."

Were you a fan of the original "Planet of the Apes" movies?

Not as much as my father is. He watches them all still to this day. So naturally he was thrilled to know I was going to be in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." I loved "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," Part I of this new reboot, so I'm a big fan of this prequel of a series.

Does "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" pay homage to the 1970s series?

I'm not sure, but I'm so glad that they didn't put the classic line from the original in the new movie; "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape," which would have made the new film very cheesy.

Advances in technology have really improved what filmmakers can do with productions as huge as "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." Do you think the audience is going to be blown away with the movie's special effects?

Yes, without a doubt. Until this film, the actors that performed in motion capture had to do it on a green screen set. Now they can be on the actual set and interact with other actions who aren't performing in motion capture. The images produced by the CGI are the most authentic looking I've ever seen.
