A bra size consists of two things that can not be separated, or else they lose all meaning. Those two things are the band size and the cup letter.

The band size equals your ribcage measurement, without adding any inches to it. If you fall in between two numbers (for example, you measure 29), you will likely fit in Bras both the band size below and above it (for example, 28 and 30). This will depend on how much squish you have around your ribcage, and the bras themselves.

A 34 band would be for someone whose ribcage measures 34 inches. This is not a small size, but one of the most common ribcage measurements.
