Dwight Eisenhower commanded US forces in North Africa and Italy, and became Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in France. As such he was successful in maintaining a well integrated and well functioning military alliance able to defeat Nazi German and Fascist Italy.
Them he became the President of the United States and served during the early years of the Cold War, bringing the war in Korea to an armistice and doing his part to prevent a nuclear war with the Soviet Union.
He had excellent political skills and was a brilliant planner.
