All electrical conductors exhibit a degree of resistance and the longer the conductor the longer is its resistance. The result of this resistance is that the voltage could be significantly lower at the socket end of the extension lead than at the plug. Some electronic items may not work well with this reduced voltage and items using electric motors may not run as fast. Appliances that produces heat such as an electric irons or kettles tend to draw a high current which will cause a large volt drop on the cable and reduced heat output. Low current devices will experience a lower volt drop.

Why some of the appliances perform quite unsatisfactory when long extension cords are used?

Too much voltage dropped in the resistance of the extension cord is why some appliances become unsatisfactory over time.

Should you buy kitchen appliances with low watts or high watts in UK?

That depends on the appliance and what you're trying to accomplish. Low watts mean that the appliance doesn't use much energy. Higher wattage appliances may be able to complete a task faster or operating on a larger mass. Smaller wattage appliances may be all you need if you're just preparing for a smaller group or if you aren't in a hurry. +++ The overall power consumption will be the same to perform the same task.

Can you run a 240V heater on 120V supply?

You can BUT it will not warm up to its rated amount, therefore, it probably will not perform its function well For more information see the answers to the Related Questions shown below. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

What's your question ?I'll make a statement here and ask for somebody else to say it's wrong:ALL electrical energy ... with the possible exceptions of only that which bindsthe sub-components of atoms and molecules ... eventually winds up as heat.

Why some appliances perform quite when long extension cord are used?

An appliance which does not use much current will perform satisfactorily with a long extension cord. Any device which uses a lot of power (space heater, large power tools) will not perform well on a long ext cord unless the cord is large enough and rated to carry the required power.
