The Abaya is a cultural thing.Different branches of Islam have slightly different 'Rules'.The Abaya is normally worn in the stricter Arabic Countries such as Saudi Arabia.Islam does'nt specify that only black to be worn.Coloured Hiqabb etc are allowed.

Hence, men wear white (more like angels) and women wear black (more devilish.
I'm probably way off on this, it's just a guess. It's not anything that I personally believe!
