There are no semiarid deserts. Deserts are arid. Grasslands are semiarid but they are not deserts.

Deserts are places with very little precipitation, with an average Rainfall of less than 250 mm (10 in) annually. They are usually very hot during the day and cold during the night. However, Antarctica is also a desert, although it is winter all year round. This is because it receives little rainfall.

Plants are sparse, and those that have adapted to the low water availability use a variety of methods to do so. Various kinds of animals snakes, lizards, and insects inhabit these regions, which have also developed qualities to survive in these arid conditions. Naturally there are far fewer animals because they need far more space to survive with the less available food supply.

Of course, only few humans can be seen. The conditions are hostile, and there are limited resources there. People who choose to live there are either tribal people in Africa, or miners who mine for precious rocks found in deserts.
