Since atoms work to get a full outer shell (8 electrons), it wants to loose its one valence electron and therefore is highly reactive, especially in water. If an object was made of potassium and got wet, it would react violently and explode, so metal objects are made out of cheaper and less reactive metals such as iron, steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, and bronze.
