He is a Roman Catholic priest, now a monsignor, in the UK, notable for his liberal tendencies. He publishes articles in mainstream newspapers (ie. The Times) and books. He has also been the rector of a seminary in Rome for training future priests (equivalent to a headmaster). He is known to oppose positions taken by the Vatican (ie. homosexuality and priesthood).
