Harriet Tubman built the underground railroad for the slaves to take a path so the slaves could escape and their owners won't catch them or beat them. Its just like the song follow the drinking gourd and the slaves had to follow the north star and see the drinking gourds its really good if you travel at night because its easier and darker and the masters won't catch them.

The person is currently unknown. Harriet Tubman used the Underground Railroad to escape slavery, so she didn't create it. A man ran away back when trains were still popular and the master couldn't find him, so he exclaimed, "He must have went on the Underground Railroad!" and the name sort of stuck.

Harriet Tubman The term Underground Railroad was used as early as 1831. Historians disagree over the origins of the name although some credit the tale to escape of slave Tice Davids. His owners supposedly said he had disappeared on an underground road.

But again, historians are not sure where the name came from.

Harriet Tubman was one of the most well known guides who used the Underground Railroad to lead slaves to safety.
