What does the Odyssey recount?

The Odyssey is basically a continuation of the Iliad. It is post-Trojan-War. The Odyssey entails the state of Ithaca (the land where Odysseus rules) during the time after war, the chase of suitors after Penelope, Odysseus's long and treacherous journey home, and the events that occured after his arrival.ans hhahhhahahahhhahh this is the best story in world his=tThe Odyssey is about Odysseus

Why is Odysseus important in The Odyssey?

Odysseus is important in the Odyssey because he is the main character. In Homer's version of The Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as a heroic, great, powerful, loyal person. When, from personal experience in reading the book, he is not exactly the best person ever: There is countless times in which he cheats on his wife. Although it does not specifically state this; beneath the script you will find it clear as day. Then again being away from your wife for that long. Yep, i think i would cheat too. Loyalty's no fun. :)

Why was Hermes important to the odyssey?

Hermes helped free Odysseus from Calypso. Without him, there would be no way of explaining why Odysseus was gone from Ithaca so long. Further, Hermes helps Odysseus best the enchantress Circe. Otherwise, Odysseus would surely have been turned into a pig along with the rest of his men.

What role do the gods play in The Odyssey?

The gods, are pretty much, the fate holders. Gods are known to be arrogant, so it is always best to remain in their favor. Odysseus, in the first part of the Odyssey, upsets Poseidon, so the whole time Poseidon is trying to prevent Odysseus from going home. (He eventually makes it though.)

Why is maron important in The Odyssey?

When Ismarus (where a race called the Cicones lived) was sacked, Maron (a priest of Apollo) was spared, and in return he gave Odysseus and his men 12 jars of his finest wine. This was the wine subsequently used to fuddle the Cyclops, Polyphemus', wits and ensure that Odysseus and his men could blind the Cyclops and escape out of his cave. Read about it in the Odyssey Book IX. Maron was also known for being the charioteer of Dionysus (the Greek god of wine) so it can be assumed that the 12 jugs of his best wine are the twelve best jugs of wine in the world.
