First, when you begin, follow the brown dirt road. Ignore the enemies unless you want XP or gold. You should get to a bookshop with a bush next to it. You should see feet sticking out of the bush. They don't matter... yet. You should see a troll-like thing outside the shop. If not, he is inside.
