The first recorded use of forensic science was in the year 1248. In this year, medical knowledge was used to solve a crime, which scrapes the surface of the forensic science that is used today. Methods involving blood typing have been utilized since about 1900, and certainly not before that. This knowledge has been sourced from the English Forensics Encyclopedia. I hope this helps!

Within the area of legal investigation, forensic science and forensic medicine are independent but related fields. Forensic science is a multidisciplinary domain that analyses and interprets physical evidence obtained from crime scenes using scientific disciplines such as biology, chemistry, and anthropology. Forensic scientists give critical information to court proceedings by using specialized techniques such as DNA analysis, fingerprinting, and ballistics. Forensic medicine is a specialty of medicine dedicated to the application of medical expertise in the investigation of fatalities, particularly those that are unexpected, unexplained, or suspicious. Forensic pathologists, who are educated medical professionals, undertake autopsies, and examine medical aspects to identify the cause and manner of death. While forensic science works with a larger spectrum of evidence analysis, forensic medicine concentrates solely on the medical elements, working with law enforcement to unravel the circumstances underlying fatalities and delivering expert testimony in court. This is the basic difference between forensic science and forensic medicine. To learn about different concepts of forensic medicine and toxicology, students can refer to an online course - Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for UnderGrads on DigiNerve. This course was created and delivered by the best faculty and one of the most eminent authors, Dr Gautam Biswas, who is known for his books "Review of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology", "Recent Advances in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology volume-1 and 2", and "Manual of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology". All components of the course are covered in lectures and are presented in an engaging manner. The course provides concise and clear text, as well as flowcharts, animations, short films, and infographics to help students better understand the ideas. Each lecture includes well-integrated MCQs.
