I think it depends on which state you live in.
This entirely depends on where you live. Even county to county regulations vary, so you best contact the local fire marshalls office to get a definite answer answer 2 In some states, it is illegal for a private citizen to light fireworks at any time. Looking for a place myself. legally you can pop them outside city limits if you own the property, if not you have to have written permission from the owner. check out nelson fireworks, they have two park and pop locations, one in mansfield and one around rockwall i believe it is. they charge $15-20 per carload depending on the location you go to
Fireworks are illegal to sell or shoot in Chicago [Cook County]. The rest of IL is also restrictive...with the only fireworks able to be legally detonated being "safe and sane" items such as sparklers, smoke bombs, snappers, and small fountains. In addition, even these items are only legal to be shot at certain periods of the year. Other counties may have additional rules and regulations. As of summer 2013, Sky Lanterns were specifically banned throughout the state as well. Anything bigger than the "safe and sane" articles mentioned above cannot be sold in IL. Obtaining these items, such as Roman Candles, Artillery Shells, Firecrackers, Bottle Rockets, Finale Cakes, etc, would require a trip to a surrounding state where fireworks are legal...such as Wisconsin or Indiana. There are over 30 stores in Northwest Indiana...and a similar number along the WI border as well. Most are seasonal and open around the Fourth of July. In Northwest Indiana, a few of the options are Uncle Sam Fireworks, Krazy Kaplan Fireworks, Goodtimes Fireworks, Phantom Fireworks, Shelton Fireworks, Boomtown, Hluska Enterprises, Lightning Fireworks, Rocket Fireworks and Dynamite Fireworks. A couple of the year-round stores with the best web presence, overall selection and prices are these: Uncle Sam Fireworks: www.USFireworks.com Phone: 219-931-5600 Dynamite Fireworks: www.DynamiteFireworks.com Phone: 219-937-4090 Both Uncle Sam Fireworks and Dynamite Fireworks are minutes from Chicago and close to the Indiana Illinois state line.
