The wheel bearings for the Mercury Topaz are found on each axle. The average cost for a set of bearings is about 70 dollars.
there are no front wheel bearings in front wheel drive cars To correctly answer your question yes, there are front wheel bearings--in fact I am going to have to have mine replaced. In the Mercury Topaz book from Haynes they do not reccommend that you do them yourself. I'm thinking that a special press is used for it. Puglet
According to my Chilton's Auto Repair manual : For a 1991 Mercury Topaz ( front wheel drive ) ( 15.9 US. gallons )
YES Some were all wheel drive. Allthough both front & rear are limited slip, & the rear only if the front wheels are spinning.
In theory the front wheel bearings require 3 hours to replace, all going well this would be about right but I had serious trouble removing the one of the axel nuts- very tight. The job requires speical pullers to remove the bearings but with them and limited mechanical skill I was able to do it
Is there a gauge panel dimmer wheel switch ? Try rotating it , it may be rotated all the way in one direction

They are pressed in and need to be either pressed out and in on the vehicle or remove the spindle and brought to a press to do this.
The front wheel bearings need to be pressed into the spindles. This is something an automotive machine shop would normally do. The rear wheel bearings are bolt-on hub assemblies.
