During a trap set by a group of around 60 senators he was stabbed 23 times. During the melee they were so intent on getting to him they accidentally stabbed each other.

Only one of the 23 wounds ( the second one to the chest) was actually fatal, though he died from massive blood loss.

A sad end to a brilliant - albeit self serving and over ambitious - man.

There is no one weapon that Julius Cesar used to defeat the Gauls. The Gauls actually had similar military technology to the Romans and were more advanced in some ways. There were however a number of advantages that Julius Cesar had over them. First, the roman troops were far more disciplined than the Gauls, which means that the Roman troops acted as a whole, rather than the Gauls who were rather unorganised. Secondly, the Gauls rarely massed one large army, rather each village had to organise it's own defense. This meant that a sound tactician like Cesar could illuminate each village one at a time. Finally, when conducting a siege, the Romans had more patience than other nations, which meant that they would take the time to build complicated siege equipment rather than simply storming the walls of a fortified city, greatly reducing their casualties.

Julius Ceasar also had the support of a well organised empire, which meant that his troops were better supplied, and more fit for battle than most Gaulic armies would have been.

The conspirators used daggers to assassinate Caesar. Antony says "I fear I wrong the honourable men whose daggers have stabb'd Caesar." In the Battle of Philippi, all the Romans would have been armed with the Roman short stabbing sword, and they always describe their weapons as "swords". So when Cassius says, "Caesar, thou art reveng'd Even with the sword that kill'd thee." it doesn't actually make any sense since a sword is not a dagger. However, Shakespeare has clearly sacrificed continuity in order to wring a little more irony out of the story.
