The middle colonies had richer soil and the farms produced cash crops of corn, wheat, beef, pork, and other crops. In 1759 NY produced 80,000 barrels of flour a year. There were also jobs in glass, textiles, and paper. Ship yards were busy and by 1770 they were making 400 ships a year.
