Many hundreds of species of plants live on coral reefs, but all are algae. Some are macro algaes such as caulerpa, halimeda, valona and sargassum. The other major category would be called diatoms; they are photosynthetic plants with shells made of silica. Another common type of algae on the reef is called zooxanthellae; it lives inside many of the animals that live on the reef, such as corals and giant clams.
