There is a HUGE difference between an Oboe and a bassoon.

Bassoons are low woodwinds that are very large and have a reed that sticks out of the middle of the instrument. It sounds kind of muffled and normally plays a similar part in a song as the bass instruments (tuba, Trombone, etc.)

An oboe is similar in physical attributes to an English horn. An oboe has 2 reeds and plays a similar part in songs that a Flute does, just a bit lower-pitched.

Oboe and Clarinet are very different instruments.

Clarinet is bigger and uses a single reed.

Oboe is smaller and uses a double reed.

Clarinet has a larger playing range than oboe.

Oboe can only play about 3 octaves. And most oboe music does not go up that high.

Clarinet does not use vibrato.

Oboe uses vibrato.

Clarinet is a Bb instrument.

Oboe is a C instrument.

Playing clarinet is affordable.

Playing oboe will put you in debt. :)

But if you play oboe on a college and professional level, you will be able to find playing gigs a lot easier.

Playing oboe is a lot harder than playing clarinet. You have to have a very good ear when it comes to pitch and you have to be able to work extremely hard to be good at it. It's not an instrument you can just pick up and play. It's takes a lot of practice and a lot of hard work before you start to sound decent.

I play the clarinet and have tried the oboe in the past.

An oboe's key characteristic is its exotic toned produced by a double-reed embouchure and the fact that it has a less complex fingering system similar to that of a flute and plays in the key of C. Whereas the clarinet is a single-reed and is able to play lower, as well as having a more complex fingering system and plays in the key of B-flat.

A bassoon is a double reed instrument, while a flute has no reed at all. A bassoon is large (8 ft long), while a flute is small ( 26 in.). a flute is also a high pitched instrument while a bassoon is a tenor/bass instrument.

Although they may look similar, clarinet and oboe are very different instruments. Clarinet is a single reed instrument and oboe has a double reed. Clarinet is slightly longer than the oboe. The clarinet's sound is very woody and rich and sweet in the low register and very clear and bright in the upper register. Oboe has a piercing, shrill, nasal sound. Oboe is supposed to be much more difficult to play than the clarinet; it's actually supposed to be the hardest woodwind instrument!

I play the clarinet and prefer its sound to the oboe.

Assuming "slow vibrations", means low frequency, then any instrument that plays in the bass register would fill that bill. Bass clarinet (or the lower and rarer contra-bass), bassoon, baritone saxophone (or the much rarer bass sax) come to mind.
