Though today we know that an atom is made up of 3 types of sub-atomic particles (electrons, protons and neutrons) but it is found that each electron has a mass very less in comparison to the mass of other particles. So, its mass is taken to be negligible and is not counted to be contributing to mass of entire atom.On other hand, protons and neutrons have noticeable masses and are almost equal to each other in masses. These both are found in nucleus of atom and are considered to be contributing to the mass of the atom.

What are the subatomic particles in atomic structure?

The atom contain protons, neutrons and electrons.

What is ment by atomic number?

Atomic Number is the amount of Protons (positively charged subatomic particles) contained in the nucleus of an atom.

What is a Sub-atomic?

Subatomic particles are particles that are smaller than the atom. Protons, neutrons, and electrons are the three main subatomic particles found in an atom. Protons have a positive (+) charge. Neutrons have no electrical charge. Electrons have a negative (-) chargeProton, neutron, and electron.

What aspect of an atom's subatomic particles defines which element it is?

The number of protons determines the element, and is the same as its atomic number.

What subatomic particles contribute to the mass of?

The atomic mass is the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons found in each atom of that element (electrons do not contribute). They are sometimes seen on periodic tables to have a decimal in the atomic number, this is for elements with more than one common isotope (an isotope of an element is the same number of protons but with a different number of neutrons), in which case an average of the common isotopes can be used.

Is a subatomic particle an atom?

No; an atom contain subatomic particles.

How does subatomic particles relate with the atom?

The atom contain subatomic particles as neutron, proton, electron.

What are 3 subatomic particle?

The three most commonly referred to subatomic particles are the proton, the neutron, and the electron. Protons and neutrons are the subatomic particles that reside in the atomic nucleus. Electrons, however, are located outside of the nucleus.

Is oxygen one atom?

Elements (oxygen being one of them) are composed of subatomic particles; that is, protons, neutrons, and electrons. Subatomic particles make up atoms (hence "sub"atomic). Therefore, it is reasonable to say that oxygen is an atom.
