According to The Wizard of Oz, the doers of evil may be craftier in their own time than the doers of good. But that doesn't mean victory. For the original book, and the 1939 film version, of The Wizard of Oz are on the side of the goodness and innocence of Dorothy Gale and her four friends over the evil and delusions of the witch-driven hordes of wolves, enslaved Winkies, crows and bees; the Wicked Witches of the East and of the West; the part-bear part-tiger Kalidahs; the Great Yellow Wildcat; the Giant Spider; and the Fighting Trees. As the Leader of the Winged Monkeys says upon seeing the protective mark from the kiss of the Good Witch of the North on Dorothy's forehead, ... the Power of Good ... is greater than the Power of Evil."
That you can get what you want, that dreams can come trueis the theme of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the theme is epitomized in the characters of Dorothy Gale, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. Each one of them respectively has a strong desire to get back home or to find courage, a heart and brains. They each hope long and earnestly enough and work hard enough that their wait is rewarded in the end.
That he cares about Ozites is what is good about the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the Wizard arrives by hot-air balloon in the magical lands of Oz. He comes at an opportune time for him and at a time of crisis for Ozites. Their ruler, who is called Oz if male and Ozma if female, is missing, and two out of four countries within Oz are occupied by wicked witches. The Wizard succeeds in uniting Ozites and getting himself a resplendent Emerald Palace in the process.
I don't know if you would call it a moral, but the underlying theme of the story is that everyone has the power to overcome their obstacles. The Wizard never actually "gave" them what they wanted because they had it inside themselves all along; the Scarecrow had a brain, he just needed to be provided with a chance to use it; the Tin Man had a heart, he just needed someone to care for; the Lion had courage, he just needed a true opportunity to be courageous; and of course, Dorothy, according to Glinda, had the power to go home all along.
The basic idea of The Wizard of Oz is that people can find strength within themselves. The Scarecrow displays wisdom, the Tinman displays compassion, and the Lion displays bravery before they even reach the wizard.
It is to show life isn't that bad in some places, like Oz!

Ohio is the setting of the story "Who Stole 'The Wizard of Oz'?" by Avi (b. Edward Irving Wortis, December 13, 1937).Specifically, the town in which the two main characters, siblings Becky and Toby, live is Checkers. The story deals with the mysterious stealing of "The Wizard of Oz" from the Checkertown Library. Neither place exists other than in the story.
Well you see, The Wizard of Oz is a story mainly about Dorthy's journey and whom she meets along the way. The story is like many other fictional novels. You follow the character on their journey. However, Wicked is like the backstory about everything in the world of the Wizard of Oz. It answers many of your questions about the Wizard of Oz book. Why was the Wicked Witch of the West so wicked? What was the city of Oz like for everyone that lived there. Wicked is the story of Oz and Munchkinland before Dorothy ever showed up. It gives you back stories to all the old characters. Another difference is the content. The Wizard of Oz is appropriate for all ages and considered a family story. However, Wicked has strong content and may be to difficult for children to understand.
