More often than not, the white specks on your fingernails (known as leukonychia) are caused by some kind of trauma or damage to the nail bed. Closing your finger inside a drawer, for instance, could result in this condition. White spots resulting from this kind of injury will heal over time and are nothing to be concerned about.
Other possible causes of leukonychia include a fungal infection called white superficial onychomycosis, an allergic reaction to nail polish, or a calcium or zinc deficiency. If the white spots on your nails are more persistent and do not seem to be linked to trauma, it might be a good idea to see your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

∙ 15y agoit is too much magnisiem or not enough zinc. Ok theres loads of things people say so here they are. Lac of zinc, lac of calcium, Too much calcium, like a tiny bruize under your nail if you hit it. I think the answer by Johnny x is wrong never heard of that 1 but people say there doctors say its lac of calcium. but i drink alot of milk, eat cheese and yogurts and i still get them not to often though. I think its just a bruize under the skin coz i hit my nail and the next day a white dot appeared. If i was any help please leave me a message. God Bless x

its because of Leukonychia this happens when you damage your nail bed this will occur is you hit or pinch you finger, this also could happen on your toenails and can spread to other fingers and toes, meaning it may effect more than one nail
