Misplaced themometer, put the head of the thermometer too high (above the still head) the reading will be low, too low and the reading will be high. Badly greased joints, you could lose vapor. Not using cool water in the condensor and the vapor won't condense, and again you could lose vapor of the more volitile compound.

What is the best fractionating column for ethanol distillation using lab glass?

What are sources of error in a chemistry lab?

Measurements are off because the tool used isn't precise. Temperature and humidity may affect the results. Errors like miscalculations and reading scales incorrectly don't count as a lab error and would be a human mistake. For a formal lab, you shouldn't include these types of errors on your part.

What could happen if you eat or drink during a science lab?

you could spill a drink and get electric wet

Why we can't eat at science lab?

Two reasons: your food could contaminate your experiment, and the experiment could contaminate your food.

Lab Safety?

A lab is not a place to be if you have not been properly trained in lab safety. There are so many things that can go wrong unless you know what to do and what not to do when in a lab. What are some things you need to know if you want to avoid a disaster in the lab?Wear Safety Goggles At All TimesYou should always wear safety goggles whenever you are in the lab. If a chemical were to splash in your eyes, you could lose your vision if you were not wearing any eye protection. You never know when something could fall into your eyes. Putting on a pair of goggles is certainly worth your vision.Gloves Should Be Worn At All TimesGloves should be made mandatory for anyone who is in a lab. At best, you could contaminate an experiment if you have residue on your hands. At worst, you could burn your skin or hurt your hands in some other way. Anyone who gets hurt in a lab may not be able to get reimbursement for medical bills that result from treating your injuries.Make Sure Everything Is LabeledEverything in the lab should be properly labeled. This will ensure that nothing is mixed, consumed or allowed into the air that should not be allowed to. Everyone will be able to avoid making mistakes that could ruin a life let alone ruin a lab experiment. Make sure that your lab has a safety program in place to train everyone regarding proper lab etiquette. The lab is a place where you need to be careful at all times. Don't think for even a second that you are immune from getting hurt while handling chemicals and other objects. You don't want to be a casualty when you are just trying to carry out a simple research project.

How do you write a science lab conclusion?

To write a good science lab conclusion you should use the RERUN procedure. The RERUN procedure means:Recall what you did during this lab.Explain why you did this lab and what you were trying to find out.Reflect on the lab's meaning and did it match your hypothesis or was your hypothesis wrong? and why?Uncertainty (errors that were in the lab that you could not control [aka: weather problems, measurement mistakes] or just any errors that you came across during running this lab that you could fix for the next time you perform the lab).New questions or new discoveries (normally you put in at least three).Make sure you do not put in 1st or 2nd person in this lab (ex: me, you, I, we) because it will be too formal and the lab isn't supposed to be about you it is supposed to be about the experiment you performed.Make sure you CHECK FOR ERRORS! Use spell check and get your peers to review it for you.Otherwise, just follow what your teacher said to do and try to follow RERUN as it will be very useful to you and it will help make writing your conclusion easier.
