Yes and no. It certainly fulfills ONE of the promises-- that candidates who are racial minorities would be judged by their qualifications and abilities, rather than by their skin color. Martin Luther King Jr. said in 1964 that he hoped there would be a black president in 25 years; while that did not happen, more black candidates did begin running for office in the 1970s and 1980s, becoming mayors, governors, senators, and representatives. When Barack Obama was elected in 2008, his election showed that a black presidential candidate would in fact be taken seriously. And about 40% of the people who voted for him were white, which would have been unimaginable in the era of segregation that Dr. King and other civil rights leaders fought against.
Johnson ignored the Tenure of Office Act.

Yes, Governor Alf Landon (Alfred Mossman Landon, Jr., 1887-1987) of Kansas was the Republican Party Presidential Nominee in the U.S. Presidential Election of 1936. He lost to Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945), who had taken office in March 1933 and was running for reelection for the first time. Roosevelt's 523-8 (98.5% to 1.5%) win over Landon was the largest landslide in the history of U.S. presidential elections.
