Owl pellets are cast off from the owl's mouth, not the rear. They are made of undigested fur and bones of their prey; typically mice, voles, rats. Sterilized

pellets can be purchased from science supply stores for dissecting in classrooms.

Great fun and great discussions arise about what the owl did eat as they examine

the contents of the pellet.
