As most European populations, Irish are predominantly brown-haired. This is according to various anthropological studies done on various Irish populations at various times. One of them by the Harvard School of Anthropology proves that.
Among adult males, 40% for dark-brown and 35% for medium brown, and 22% light brown to reddish. Concerning reddish hair, they are well among the highest in world around 10% for adults, but behind Scotland (13%). Due to the recessiveness of red hair, it usually masked by a dominant color which is brown. The proof is up to 46% of the Irish carry the recessive gene for red hair.
Black hair in its pure state is rare in Ireland (3%), but added to the 40% of dark brown and you understand why some Irish were referred to by Americans as "Black Irish". (In a European and American context dark brown and black are often not differentiated; to the scientists 'black' hair cannot have any brown undertones.)

It depends on how you define 'black' hair. It is common to refer to dark brown hair as 'black' hair in a European context. You could say 43% of Irish have dark hair, overwhelmingly dark brown.
Irish are predominantly a blue-eyed people. Depending on studies done on their populations. Harvard U in the 40's found that almost 50% had pure blue eyes, this is as high or higher than the lightest-eyed regions of Scandinavia. Another study done by the Irish Journal of Medical Science found that 59% for blue eyes and 21% for green eyes. According to the Harvard studies, less than 1% of Irish people have pure brown eyes. In the British Isles, the Irish are also the most blue-eyed.
The most common (natural) hair color is dark brown (40%) followed by medium brown (35%). (from a Harvard Univ. study, Hooton).
no...not most people...red hair is going extinct...not many people have it :L
yes mostly even dogs do. they are called Irish setters. they are known for red hair.
Well, this might not be the answer you where looking for, but most Irish people are redheads or "gingers". I am a ginger, and i wear my hair however i want to. Actually 10% of Irish people have red-hair so it is not unusual but 90% have other hair colours. Irish girls wear their hair in all kinds of ways as this is more a question of individual taste than nationality.
No people just picture the Irish as short alchoholics with red hair which is not true. Every country has short people, red haired people and alchoholics. In fact most Irish people have brown hair and blue/green eyes. And I know this because:Born in the UK to Irish parents and have been living back in Ireland since 2! In fact the average Irish man is 5 ft 11 inches, taller than British and American averages.
paddys or micks
Most Irish people are Christians.
There is no Irish for this phrase -- it is never used in Ireland and seems to be a total American invention. Most Irish people cringe when they hear it.
