The two types of gametes are male and female gametes. With respect to the higher groups of plants (Angiosperms) they are the pollens and eggs respectively. With respect to mammals they are the sperm and ova (egg).

we have to consider whether the gametes the question were asking of is for plants or for animals.. so we'll discuss both..

PLANTS :

.. The male gamete is called pollen

.. The female gamete is called eggs

ANIMALS :

.. The male gamete is called sperm

.. The female gamete is called ovum..

Now this doesn't apply to all animal and plant kingdoms.. only a high ranking species can develop the ability to produce gametes (sex cells).. An amoeba for example doesn't have gametes,, they reproduce by splitting themselves..

Angiospermae and Mammals are the ones that have the ability to reproduce by releasing gametes

In humans and most other sexually reproducing organisms, there are two types of gametes produced during meiosis, spermatozoon and ovum cells, more commonly known as sperm and egg cells. However being more specific, in other species such as some algae and fungi, that do reproduce sexually reproduce using two gametes, however these gametes aren't male/female distinguished.

Two types of human gamete are the male's sperm and the female's ovum or egg. In plants, the pollen is also a gamete, in addition to the egg.
