Anger can sometimes serve as a catalyst to action. If we see an unjust situation, such as discrimination against people of a certain race or sexual orientation, it may very well be outrage about the situation which spurs us to act in a way that will change it. Righteous outrage is often a force behind civil rights movements.

Anger can also get someone out of a dangerous situation. If a person is physically abusive toward a partner, it may be anger toward the abuser that helps the abused partner find the strength to leave.

Of course the hardest thing about anger is responding to it productively, and not letting it control us. It can also be said that anger challenges us to examine and improve ourselves and our behavior.
