There are several names for a were wolf, werewolf being the most common as it obviously means man wolf. e.g Lycanthrope, shape shifter, werebeasts and Therian (man/beast). At some stage of history they were known as vampires as they though if you buried a dead werewolf it would come back as a vampire in the shape of a wolf/beast or hyenas, which proweled the battle feilds, drinking the blood of dying soldiers. Damarchus or Damarch was a victorious olympic boxer from Parrhasia (Arcadia) was said to have changed his shape into that of a wolf at the sacrifice of Lycaean Zeus, becoming a man after 9 years.
