The people of Mesopotamia had domesticated goats, sheep, and pigs by 7000 B.C., cows by 6000 B.C., donkeys by 4000 B.C., and horses by 2000 B.C. There was also a variety of wildlife, most prominently lions, leopards, wild cattle, boar, deer, and gazelle for the mammals, and ostriches, vultures and eagles for the birds. The Mesopotamians also had a number of gods associated with snakes, such as Nirah, but I don't know the exact type of snake. The Mesopotamians did their best to get rid of the lions, however; it was the king's duty to protect his people from them, and lion-hunting ended up something of a national sport.
