While the Articles of Confederation called for fair treatment, cooperation and friendliness between the states, the reality was sadly the opposite. Each state viewed itself as a separate sovereign entity instead of a part of a united nation. The Articles gave the central government, little if any power to mediate these disputes, or any interstate commerce.
