Real time processing occurs immediately the function is sent to action.

Online processing is set in queue and can take overnight to process. In most cases online processing is like this web page. Information typed in and it take minutes to go through the up load and populating process.

A classic case of on line processing is the banks pay in /out process - What you pay in NOW at the bank shows on your account after midnight (normally) but is there by start of trade tomorrow. This is because with real time updates multiple actions would lock down a sequence of events. A queue is formed to prevent this

Batch processing involved a number of similar products on a production line either being designed or manufactured. Once a batch has been completed, the production line either stops, or another patch starts. Real-time processing is done instantly, and can be referenced to JIT (Just-In-Time) Production used in Business terms. As it consists of completing things "to order".

In real time processing the user initiates a transaction through interaction with, usually, an input screen and sends the data to be processed. The response should come back immediately for the next cycle of reading, input, sending, processing and response. In batch processing the input records are held in a file or files which are input in one go to the batch process which deals with all records without any further interaction. This is typically done without user interaction.

(1)Batch systems execute a sequence of steps without external inputs, while real-time systems wait for user input between steps in a transaction.

(2)Batch systems typically apply the same process--such as calculating a model score or assigning a customer segment--to many records in a single job, while real-time systems typically execute a process against a single record per job.

(3)For a batch system, the key goal is to move through a large data set as efficiently as possible. The goal for a real-time system is to retrieve and update individual records with minimum delay.

Online processing happens right away. For example, the DMV clerk types information in from your license application and the special printer spits out your new license on the spot. Batch processing happens all at once some time after the fact. For example, DMV clerks from all over the state type in information from various license applications. Then at 2 am in the state capitol, the main computer runs through, processes all of the applications, and prints up all of the license cards.

All those terms lack a definitive definition, but real time processing is commonly understood to describe processing and reacting to events locally, with small and deterministic delays. For example, the computer system controlling a combustion engine's fuel injector and ignition system is a real time processing system. While fast and deterministic delays are not very precise terms, real time processing and real time operating systems are typically understood to be dealing with events in the 1kHz range and above.

Online processing is a more recent and even less standardized term, but can be understood to describe the remote processing of events through the internet. For example, a spell checking service might be constructed to take input through a browser, send it to a server over the internet, have that server examine the text and return results. Unlike the example for real time processing above, this application is less time-critical, and the occasional delay or even temporary outage might be acceptable, with the benefit being small local computing requirements. Events processed in this manner will be in the 1Hz range and below, but might be able to digest much larger amounts of data per event, when compared to real time processing.

What is the difference between online processing and realtime processing?

The different is that real-time processing occurs immediately an a function is set to action. Online processing involves putting functions in a queue and can take time to process.

Is ATM online processing or real time processing?

It is both, it contain both elements of batch processing and elements of real-time processing. PIN verification uses real-time processing and the customer record shall only be updated at the end of the day(batch processing).

What is main differences between real time processing and real time process control?

1. Ask on Yahoo answers. This site is pretty much dead. The difference between them is that in real time processing, we know what output we'll get with a specific input. But in real time process control, sensors are used alongwith feedback loop i.e the output can effect the next input to the system.

Real time data processing and online data processing?

Real time data processing allows an organization the ability to involve instant action for those times when acting within seconds or minutes is significant. Online data processing is the procedure of gathering up information in order to analyze and convert it into other operational information.
