Yes it is, cause when a engine is running it builds pressure inside the crank case, and to much oil will cause oil leakage in the gaskets and could cause piston ring damage.

It is in the rear left side in a removable panel in the glovebox of my 1995 [manufactured 8/94] GMC SLS Sonoma, 4x4, 4.3 vortex; hopefully, it is in the same place in yours...
To the left of the steering wheel, below it. It is vertical, not at an angle like most plugs.
