Arut Vanshi Kshatriyas are mentioned in Bhavishya Purana. In Mahabharata they are described as Aratta Kshatriyas whose kingdom was named Shivi and the capital of that kingdom was Arutpura. This kingdom was around the border of northern Sindh and Punjab. Today Arutpura is known as Aror Kot or Arora in Sindh. In later history, it is also mentioned that Aratta Kshatriyas helped Chandragupta Maurya in overthrowing the powerful empire of the Nanda dynasty. Later some Aratta Kshatriyas went into the horse trade from Central Asia. Aratta Kshatriyas came to be known as Arora in later times. Rai dynasty of Sindh which ruled from 5th to 7th century belonged to Lohana branch of Aroda. Historical document Chachnama mentions that father of Sindh king Dahir Chach (Yash) was a minister of Rai king of Aroda and killed Rai king by deceit and captured his kingdom. Chach and his son Dahir later suppressed Aroda and imposed restrictions on them because they considered Aroda a threat to their kingdom. Due to this reason when Sindh was attacked by Muhammad bin Qasim in 712 AD, Aroda did not help King Dahir due to which he was defeated and Muslims ruled India for the first time. Later due to continuous attacks of Muslims on Sindh and Punjab, Aroras could not re-establish their kingdom and Arora dynasty disintegrated. Arora Khatri settled in different provinces like Sindh, Punjab, Afghanistan and adopted different professions for livelihood like trade, farming.
