"Normal" human temperatures vary. The published 98.6 is an average. If the higher temperature is a normal thing for you, checked several times over a period of hours or days when you are not sick, then it is nothing to worry about.

Be certain that you are taking your temperature with the right kind of thermometer, and that you are following the directions carefully. Small errors in placement of the thermometer can result in incorrect readings. If you are using an electronic instrument, be sure it is correctly calibrated by checking the temperatures of several people. The average should be 98 - 99 degrees F.

If you find that your temperature is naturally above "normal," you should explain that to your physician and be sure it is noted in your records. It can make a difference in diagnoses.
