I'm assuming you mean to have a 500 cal/day deficit? That would be either through exercise, diet, or both. A pound of fat is relatively equal to 3500 calories so with a 500 cal/day deficit, you might lose up to 1 pound per week. The real fact is there are too many variables to predict your fat loss, but a calorie deficit should cause you to lose weight.
Depending on which cardio exercise you are doing, your weight, and your speed/resistance depends on how long.
Using an elliptical in the gym for about an hour with good resistance should put you around 500 calories an hour.
Bicycling around 12-13.9mph for an hour burns an average of 600 calories per hour.
Running, 6 mph (10 min mile) at a weight of 175 burns 500 calories per 45 minutes.
Swimming (Breaststroking) burns 450 calories in 30 minutes.
General Aerobics burns about 475 calories per hour.
All of these were calculated at an average weight of 175 lbs. So if you are heavier or lighter it will change the calories burnt.
to many i dont think its healthy to lose 5 pounds in a day
A pound of fat has 3500 calories, but when you lose weight epsiceally when your losing it fast (which is bad) your not burning pure fat your also burning off other things, like muscle.

If you burn more calories than you consume, then yes. If you're weight is currently constant based on your current food consumption, then it is a fair assumption that you will lose weight by running (i.e. burning more calories) and consuming the same amount (and type) of food (i.e. consuming the same number of calories).
