Xanax, or alprazolam, shows up as a benzodiazepine on a drug screen. If the drug screen has a separate toxicology section, it may show alprazolam metabolites specifically.
If they are testing for BZD's in general will there be any difference as to how each (clono & XANAX) show up on the tox screen?

∙ 15y agoMost drug screens are intentionally not very specific, they will pick up parts of the molecular structure of drugs that are present in a whole variety of similar drugs.
Xanax is a sedative of the benzodiazepine class, meaning that the drug molecule has a certain two-ringed chemical structure with 2 nitrogen atoms in it. The tests pick up this common structural element in many sedatives (the same element is also responsible for the similar action of the drugs). Examples are valium, seresta, restoril etc.
The test will usually only say that one of that list of drugs is present.
